Welcome to Metropolitan Studios, home to the Atlanta School of Burlesque, operators of Atlanta's Burlesque Academy program, and the award-winning Candybox Revue burlesque entertainment troupe!

We were born by identifying the importance of artistic self-expression, the representation of marginalized communities, and the need for an inclusive and safe space for individuals. Celebrating diverse artists and makers, we are more than just an Atlanta dance studio - we are an artistic haven. We are an event venue, community gathering space, and Georgia's Burlesque & Cabaret House.

November is National Native American Heritage Month, and we wish to offer honor to the Muscogee (Creek) people with a reflection on the land that we occupy: the Muscogee peoples' ancestral homeland — now modern-day Alabama and parts of Georgia. The land is stolen, but the Muscogee peoples' relationship to the land is ongoing, not just in the past.

Hi everyone!

We recently discovered that the artist behind the mural that has been on the side of our building since we opened in 2016 espouses and supports political views and ideologies that are outdated, detrimental, and dehumanizing to many who find comfort, community and care in our space.

As a queer woman-founded and owned business dedicated to artistic self-expression, marginalized communities, inclusivity, and accountable spaces, those we show support for and partner with should reflect our values and mission.

To rectify this situation, we're working with a local Atlanta muralist to create a new piece, representative of who our community is. While we are covering the majority of the costs, as a small arts organization, we need your support to make this happen!

How you can help:

• Donate: Every dollar counts towards the cost of materials and the artist's fee.
• Donations made through our Fractured Atlas program are tax deductible, and company matching is real! DM us for Venmo and PayPal links.
• Volunteer: Help with prep work or painting. More info to come on dates/times, but you can get added to our list by sending us a DM!
• Spread the word: Let your friends and family know about our cause.
• Visit us: Stop by and show your support while we work on the mural.

Guess who is celebrating! We are! Metropolitan Studios is celebrating a huge moment this week! Today, we celebrate our 2016 Grand Opening! Our doors have been open to the #AtlantaArts community and scene, and the burlesque industry for eight years!

How'd we get to this moment?
Commitment to that hard work magic!

Here's a snapshot of our history, steeped in #burlesque:

⭐️In 2013 The Atlanta School of Burlesque was founded by Ursula Undress. The first graduating students were Roula Roulette, A to Z, Nina Charise, Greta Von Danse, and Rena Rhinestone. From the school came The Candybox Revue in 2014.

⭐️For a time, neither had a permanent home for classes, rehearsals, community building or shows, so they venue hopped, but in 2016, Ursula, Roula, and Talloolah moved their passions into the century-plus year old house you know as Metropolitan Studios Arts & Movement Community.

⭐️They built this community on a foundation of equity, creativity, sharing, community, and a love for the arts. They listened to each other and to their peers, and most importantly: to their students. Everything that has been done with you in mind.

⭐️And that makes YOU part of our story and we want to celebrate your story!

Keep your kids moving and flexing their creativity! Our Dancy Kids for 7-10 year olds welcome kids of all abilities and backgrounds.

Camp 1: July 22 - 26
Camp 2: July 29 - Aug 2

Dancy Kids focuses on discovery and exploration through daily activities that include age-appropriate creative dance and movement, prop work, and dance storytelling to help develop a sense of rhythm and self-expression. All through the basics of hip-hop, ballet, and jazz dance. They’ll bring their experience to the stage at an end of week showcase! So grab your cameras and see your dancy kid shine!
