Class Description

Instructor: Roula Roulette Schedule: Wednesdays, 8:15 PM - 9:15 PM Twelve (12) weeks + student showcase Session 1: 10/16-11/6 Session 2: 11/13-12/4 Session 3: 12/11-1/15 No Class 12/25 & 1/1 Dress Rehearsal: January 19 Student Showcase: February 7 & 8 Price: $750 This beginner burlesque class familiarizes you with burlesque language and movement, and basic jazz dance moves such as three-step turns, pivots, box steps, and stage walks. As an introduction to the movement skills used in jazz dance, it includes the use of dynamics in rhythm, sustained and percussive tension, and dramatic focus unique to jazz and burlesque. This is a chorus/ensemble dance series that focuses on basic burlesque movement within group dance routines. It is ideal that you have taken Burlesque Basics to become familiar with burlesque as an art form. You will learn 3 different choreographed routines: one classic and two conceptual/modern. Students are expected to provide basic "dance blacks" (black character shoes, black fishnets, black bra, and black shorts). Student Learning Outcomes: • Three (3) choreographed routines. • Evaluate movement skills in terms of space, time, and force and reproduce accurately through the movement of your body. • Analyze a dance performance in terms of choreography, performance, and theatrical elements. • Demonstrate clarity of intent while applying kinesthetic principles for all dance elements. • Incorporate characterization while maintaining dance form and formation. What to bring: • Dance/character shoes or strapped-toe shoes with a 2-3-inch heel. • Other acceptable footwear include jazz flats, salsa shoes or barefoot. • Water • Kneepads Included workshops: • Burlesque History & Ethics • Backstage Etiquette & Professionalism • Stage Makeup • Wig Techniques • Kittening This semester, we are providing a complimentary photoshoot to Burlesque Academy students to help pump up your promo! Cancellation Policy

You must notify Metropolitan Studios at least 3 hours before class starts, or class will be deducted from your account and considered “used” even though you were not present.
